My Story
Artur's story
Fitness instructor and ballroom dancer, Artur Ligeska, was detained in Dubai and Abu Dhabi after false allegations were levied against him by a powerful Sheikh. After a significant campaign by Detained in Dubai, Artur's family and friends, he was exonerated of the charges against him, acquitted from a life sentence and freed. Since his release, Artur has written a book about his own torture in prison, featured in a documentary about his experience and campaigned for human rights improvements in the UAE. Artur lobbied for his friend Ahmed Mansoor, his neighbour while in prison.
Sadly, Artur passed away in May 2021, after having just celebrated two years of freedom.
